United Close In On Valencia Pair David Villa & David Silva

The Red Devils are on the verge of capturing the duo...

Manchester United are closing in on a £40 million double swoop for Valencia pair David Villa and David Silva.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping his eye on the talented attacking duo, but was unable to complete a deal over the summer. But his hopes have been boosted by Valencia director Fernando Gomez, who admitted last night that the cash-strapped club may need to sell their prized assets.

"The club made a great effort to keep our players this summer but our economic situation remains very serious," Gomez is quoted as saying.

"It was a success to keep them, but there comes a point when you can't stand it anymore. We may have to sell Villa."

The 27-year-old Villa has been in supreme form for club and country, having followed up his performance as top scorer in Euro 2008 with a prolific campaign in World Cup qualifying. Silva, 23, is seen as a ready-made replacement in midfield for the ageing Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Hope to see them at Xmas at Old Trafford! They will be invaluable assets to the United squad after Ryan and Paul leave.
