Gabriel Obertan to make first appearance for United against Barnsley

The Frenchman will make his United appearance after he was bought in the summer.

The Carling Cup's reputation for launching United careers will continue on Tuesday night when Gabriel Obertan makes his long-awaited Reds debut.

The Frenchman's arrival at the club was announced on 8 July but he has had to wait until the final week of October to clock up his first senior appearance.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed to ManUtd.com on Monday, "He’ll play tomorrow against Barnsley, it’s a good start for him."

Obertan came to United with a back problem but after several months of careful treatment at Carrington, he's ready to stake a claim in the first team, possibly on the left flank.

"We're taking our time with him because we want him back at 100 per cent," said Sir Alex in a previous interview with us.

"Gabriel told us he'd been playing with a back injury for a year and a half (in France) and no-one thought about getting a scan done.

"We expect big things from him. At 16 he was one of Europe's outstanding young talents.

"He's very quick and he can play both sides or through the middle so he brings a real versatility to us."

Let's hope he can score a goal or two in his opener!

Idont feel good about this Tie, Barnsley can be dangerous ,Ihope Obertan proves to be a good bargain, Ieel Chelsea will win a lot this season they have the players that make you fear them,We dont have players who can make a difference, NO Ronaldo either, Isay we shud sell Berbatov and buy the Senior Ronaldo, wont cost much eitherAnderson cant score goals, Carrick plays well and then switches off, Scholes is now more of a tackler rather then the goalscoring Midfielder he used to be , Nani is an absolute waste ,we shud get rid of him in Jan and buy Ashley Young.Ferdinand was always like this ,but now he too has lost pace and decisioning Owen is a good target man but he has limited pace and height ( And injures also ) he cant get u 20- 25 goals a season like Ruud Van Nistelrooy used to or Andy Cole used to. Some serios thinking required her and of course we have he money , but no one seems interested to join United
