Ben Foster has been called up to the England squad for the final World Cup qualifier, against Belarus on Wednesday, in place of the suspended Robert Green.
The Manchester United goalkeeper had been expected to have been in the squad for yesterday's game against Ukraine, in which Green was sent off, but was unavailable after his club claimed he had a chest injury.
Foster has featured regularly for United this season in the absence of the first-choice Edwin van der Sar but he has made a series of mistakes, most recently in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland last weekend, and is understood to have fallen out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Foster, who has been given the all-clear after scans on his chest, is likely to act only as cover for the Belarus game, with David James, who came on as a replacement for Green against Ukraine, and Paul Robinson already in the squad.
