 Kiko Macheda is already counting dates on the calendar left for his return to Manchester. The Italian, on-loan to Serie A club Sampdoria admitted that he is missing English fish and chips.

Macheda, who scored the only goal in the friendly win over England poured his heart out in the interview.

Macheda said: “I’m looking forward very much to getting back to Manchester United but not the English weather. You can get fish and chips there though and I like them. You can’t get them here.”

“I was nearly 16 when I went to Manchester United (from Lazio) and I do love it there. I’m almost English. My friends now say I speak better English than Italian.”

“Of course I’m looking forward to going back. I’ve had a few injuries but I think things are getting better now.”

The 19-year-old striker is on loan at Sampdoria until the end of the season, but is confident he can return to United stronger and hungrier than before. The striker has not spoken to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for three weeks, but believes he still has a future at the club.

Macheda said: “I think Sir Alex is looking out for me. I spoke to him three weeks ago on the phone and I spoke to him before I came here. He said to me ‘If there’s anything you need, just call Me.’ because he’s still my coach. I still feel like I’m in his long-term plans, of course. My ambition is to be part of Manchester United because that’s where I want to go.”

“I’ve been at Sampdoria for a month now and I’m really happy. Obviously it’s not like Manchester United - because Manchester United is a proper club - but I’m happy to be here and I want to do well, for myself and the team.”

“I’ve got six months on loan and I hope to do well to get back there even stronger to show what I can do.”

Let’s hope for the best for Kiko, who along with Anderson is amongst my favorites at United.

Manchester United are set to face Aston Villa this Tuesday, after the weekend FA Cup tie against the Saints, and with no Federico Macheda on the team sheet, Houllier’s men will breathe a sigh of relief. Kiko Macheda, who was bought by United from Lazio as a 16 year old has made 16 appearances for United from 2008-11; before returning back to his homeland Italy with the Serie A club Sampdoria on loan. In the 16 games he played, Macheda managed to score 4 times. Let’s rewind a bit and look at why Villa players are afraid of Macheda:

5 April 2009: United vs. Aston Villa

United had to suffer in defense with Rio injured and Vidic suspended. Gary Neville started with O’Shea in the heart of defense. The Villa players made full use of this mismatch and scored twice to take the lead by 58^th minute. United were in all sorts of trouble and ON came Macheda for Nani in the 61^st minute. United leveled the score, courtesy Ronaldo’s goal in the 80^th minute. In the 90^th minute, Macheda got a pass from the Giggs inside the penalty box and beating the defender, he turned a complete 180 degrees before curling the ball past a helpless Friedel. It was a happy moment for the Italian who had scored a hat-trick earlier against Newcastle in a reserve match just last week.

13 November 2010: Aston Villa vs. United

Aston Villa had won just 1 out of last 29 games against United. And this time, it was almost an Aston Villa youth team playing against United, with the likes of Albrighton, Bannan, Warnock etc. An exciting addition was Jonathan Hogg, for whom this was a debut match. After an entertaining first half, where Villa had the upper hand, United showed some signs of a comeback, only to see themselves going 2 goals down by the 75^th minute. ON came Macheda. The Italian took just 6 minutes to hammer a ball past Friedel to score the first goal for United. The rejuvenated team went all attack against Villa for the next few minutes and the result was a goal from Super-Vidic from a header.

Thus, this time around, Villa will be a bit more relaxed though I see Rooney giving them a hard time!!

I go for Rooney to score in this match and an easy United victory..!! 3-1 I'm guessing, c'mon! it's at home!!!

Kiko shines on his debut (Video)

Kiko Macheda made his debut for Sampdoria as they ran out 2-1 winners at home to Roma. The United striker came off the bench in the 78th minute with the scores locked at 1-1 and nearly made an instant impact with a header that went narrowly wide. That miss was negated, however, when Macheda played a part in teeing up Stefano Guberti's late winner for the hosts

Federico Macheda is more than happy to be on loan at Sampdoria for the remainder of the season where he would get enough experience to be #1 at United. C'mon! Let's all hope he comes back to United in the coming season.

Several Italian clubs were believed to have been chasing the player for a temporary move, as well as West Brom, while manager Sir Alex Ferguson had hoped that the youngster would remain in England and ply his trade in the Premier League.

However, it appears that the 19-year-old fancies a short-term move back to his homeland, and has pushed the deal through to continue his footballing education at the Genoa-based club.

"There are still a couple of faxes [to be sent] but sometime between Wednesday and Thursday I will be in Italy," Macheda told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Genoa is a beautiful city and I am happy."

He added: "I am only playing 10-20 minute spells in games currently and that is not helping my growth. Ferguson is of the same opinion.

"In this regard, we are all happy because in six months' time, Manchester United will get a stronger player."

The Italy Under-21 international also hoped that he would not be viewed as a replacement for Antonio Cassano, who left the club under controversial circumstances to join AC Milan.

"Cassano is a champion while it's the first time I will have played in Serie A," said Macheda. "Cassano and I are players with very different characteristics and on two different levels.

"I know there is a lot of expectation on me but the responsibility does not scare me. If I don't play I won't mature.

"Here the football is very tactical but I have no fear."

For most of us United fans, it was an unfamiliar sight at the Villa Park to see an injury depleted Aston Villa dominate most of the match. True, United have had slip-ups this season and have played unlike the Manchester United of the past, but a team was yet to take a 2 goal lead against them prior to this match.

Sir Alex’s men were playing their third match within six days and with most of the players down with the flu they brought back from Turkey, he had to play with almost the same squad that faced Manchester City midweek in a goalless draw. Scholes, who was suspended, was replaced by Hernandez and Rafael who got injured(dead leg) battling against Tevez and Silva was replaced by Brown. All in all, a tired United XI faced an injury hit Aston Villa XI.

Macheda to leave Manchester United in January

Federico Macheda, who was transferred from the Italian Club Lazio in 2007 , is all set to return to his hometown club on loan! According to a report in the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello sport, Lazio may also try to make the move permanent!

Macheda couldn't find a place in Sir Alex's first team announcements and thus his former club has decided to take advantage by promising him regular first team appearances.

With 3 goals, Macheda had a good time in Manchester United's first team but he lost form quickly and thus had to be dropped!


His last performance was against Bolton Wanderers on September 26th, 2010, where he was substituted against Rooney and failed to impress!

Another report suggests that Macheda is keen on moving back to his club!

Sir Alex Ferguson claims that there was "no chance" of him ever letting Federico Macheda go out on loan, and insisted that his "cocky" striker will be one to watch this season.

After a sensational breakthrough at Old Trafford, in which he scored a last-minute winner against Aston Villa to help United to the 2008-09 Premier League title, Macheda has struggled for first-team opportunities last year.

Hand goal or not?

The Italy Under-21 international started just three games last season - though he struggled with injuries throughout the campaign - scoring just one goal, in the 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea in April. Though the goal rather appeared to be a hand goal, but it was counted after all!

There had been reports that Macheda, 18, would be sent out on loan to gain more experience, with clubs in both the Premier League and Serie A thought to be interested in signing him.

But that thought had never entered Ferguson's head, and the United boss believes Macheda will prove his worth this season.

"He is one we have to keep a close eye on," Ferguson told Sky Sports. "He has a cocky arrogance about him. He will argue with players in a training session and he will compete for his ego."

"But he's only 18, he's not 19 until October and we keep forgetting that. He is an exceptional talent and he is tough. He does not get bullied in games."

From my own experience, I've atleast seen him twice mouthing with players unneccesserily, always complaining for a good ball. He's surely got a lot of cockiness and arrogance to deal with.
"He gives as good as he gets. There was no chance of us ever letting him go on loan - he stays here. We need to keep an eye on him."

Macheda has scored nice two goals against MLS all-stars on his american tour. One of them came within 30 seconds of the first half! Now that's incredible.

They say good players do get famous at an early age. Look at Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Sir Matty Busby, all shined while they were new to United. Federico Macheda is no different and I bet he would be the next big thing after Wayne and Chicharito. Glory Glory..
