There is speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Madrid to return to Manchester United soon

What could be an ideal Christmas present for a Manchester United, apart from Liverpool being positioned below United in the Barclays Premier League table?

It would undoubtedly be the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. However, pundits feel that this may not happen so soon, but will surely take place. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague reckons 'everything is in place' for CR7 to make a comeback at United. We put together 3 main reasons why this could happen in the coming transfer window(s):

Unhappy Ronaldo

1. Ronaldo is clearly unhappy at Real Madrid with the departure of his close peers Mesut Ozil to Arsenal (2013), Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich (2014) and Angel di Maria (2014). Real Madrid's performance so far in the La Liga has been dismal  (placed 13th with only 1 win in 3 games) partly due to the exit of Xabi and di Maria. There is a sense of disbelief in Real Madrid's intent this season and Ronaldo certainly wouldn't like to play for a club on a decline. United on the other side is re-inventing itself and Ronaldo would be happy to be at a club where he belongs more. 

2. Manchester United have their finances in place and have regained their buying power. Who could how thought they would be able to sign 6 new players in the 2014 summer transfer window including the likes of Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera. Gary Neville recently made a statement about how surprised and happy he was at United's recent signings "We sat here three or four months ago deliberating over whether Manchester United could attract world-class talent. They have absolutely smashed that question out of the water". He also said that the arrival of Falcao and di Maria has made it "more possible" for Ronaldo to now follow the suit. Manchester United spent a staggering £170m in the recent transfer window; crossing the rumoured £150m budget set by the Glazer family. United is definitely on a spending spree.

Happier times

3. Ronaldo wants to fulfil his dream of coming back and playing for Manchester United. CR7 was only aged 24 when he made a switch to Real Madrid. He was still a boy back then, full of ambitious dreams and had a lot to prove to the world. Five years later, breaking records after records and bagging around 15 accolades including the Fifa Ballon d'Or and UEFA Best Player in Europe award in 2014, CR7 has achieved almost everything he could have possibly desired. He has talked so much about missing Manchester and Old Trafford in the last 12-18 months that it is bluntly obvious that he now wants to come back home. 

OK, so what if this deal does go through - how much will the possession of Cristiano Ronaldo cost Manchester United?

Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid for a record price of £80m (crossing the historic €100m mark). In 2013, he signed a lengthy 5 year contract which ties him to the current European champions till June, 2018. His current weekly salary is £300,000. If Ronaldo's club decides to sell him off next year, when he still will have 3 more years to play, there is seriously a good chance for Real Madrid to cash in. Experts are arguing anything between £50-£60m would be a bargain for Manchester United. As far as the wages go, it would be no less than £300,000 a week. Can Manchester United afford him is entirely a different question. They will surely have to get rid of a few under-performing players such as Anderson, Cleverley, Fellaini and Young. 

Clearly Real Madrid fans would absolutely agonise if Ronaldo is allowed to leave the club and there is no replacement lined up. Could that replacement be Radamel Falcao? Falcao has made his feelings about the Madrid club clear and would like a move despite his time at rivals Athletico Madrid. Falcao and Ronaldo share their agent in Jorge Mendes and maybe this was all planned in order to lure Ronaldo back by United? Falcao is currently on a loan deal at United with an option of a buy-out at the end of the season from Athletico Madrid. A swap of clubs for Falcao and Ronaldo would be a good negotiating tool for Manchester United.

The benefits Cristiano Ronaldo can bring to Manchester United are endless. His signing will easily sell a million t-shirts upon arrival at Old Trafford. Assuming a United t-shirt still costs around £50 next year, his arrival will generate £50million in merchandise sales itself. Ronaldo's presence may hinder the selection of young players like Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard in the Playing XI, but then they will a huge opportunity to learn from the Portugese superstar. His signing will also undoubtedly increase United's global fan following.

So what Jersey number will Cristiano Ronaldo wear if he makes a move to the Red Manchester club?

So how well is Manchester United doing financially in the light of a trophy barren 2013-2014 season,  a new manager, fresh sponsorship deals and no champions league participation? To answer this question, let's first have a close look at the last season's financial report which was released by the club last week. 

Manchester United have announced a record annual revenue of £433.2m which increased 19% from the previous season. Part of this revenue comes from sponsorships (£135.8m) as this saw a staggering 49% growth. Broadcasting revenue saw a surge of 33.7% and this is expected to reduce this year due to lack of Champions League display, which had a 5% contribution previous year. Match-day income decreased by 0.9% which is partly because the tremendous increase in previous season's income due to Old Trafford being a host to a few London 2012 Olympics games.

So how did Manchester United spend their money in the previous season?

Where the Annual revenue increased by 19%, the total operating costs of the club rose equally by 20%. However, the Revenue has been £60.9m higher, hence the profitability. Employee benefit expenses (which includes salaries to our big guns such as Rooney, Mata and Van Persie) was an astounding 58% of the operational cost. Wayne Rooney himself is on a reported £14m a year contract. Acquisition of Galacticos such as Angel di Maria and Falcao will certainly add to the wages bill in the current season. A pre-mature departure of Mr. David Moyes and his coaching staff cost the club £5.2m.

Manchester United now has 3 global sponsorship partnerships in the form of Chevrolet, Aon and Nike. From 2015-16 season, Nike will be replaced by Adidas in a record breaking £750m 10 year deal. Real Madrid's £31m a year deal was previously the highest.

However, the adjusted net income (after tax) amounts to a mere £23.8m.

Outlook for 2014-2015:
The club is not optimistic on boasting immense profits for the next year due to two reasons mainly. First, the lack of Champions league football will directly hit the broadcasting and match-day revenues and should cut the club's annual income by around £50m. Secondly, the club's net transfer spending for 2014-2015 is already £90m inflated by the £60m acquisition of Angel di Maria from Real Madrid.

So assuming MUFC finishes third in the premier league, a revenue of between £385m and £395m is expected for the 2014-2015 season.

2. £341.8m - Amount of club's debt despite reducing it by 12.2% in the previous season
3. £50m - The price Manchester United will lose out for not being in 2014-15's champions league
4. £59.7m - Club's record signing fee to secure the talismanic ex Real madrid's Angel di Maria
5. £53m a year - Chevrolet will pay this amount to have its name on the current MUFC jersey.

The curious case of Marouane Fellaini and why he deserves to play for ManUtd

Marouane may be an answer to United's recent midfield woes!

People are questioning the prospect of Fellaini’s transfer to Manchester United. 

This is because there is a strong concern that the young Belgian has no experience in Europe and also his makeshift striker role at his previous club, Everton. He's a Belgian international and it is a huge bonus that Belgium is one of the strongest young sides in Europe at the moment. So acquiring a player of Fellaini's ability is a great prospect.

Manchester United didn't have many problems in the attacking department last year. Talented players like Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez created chances and scored some lively goals. However, United’s midfield trouble was exposed by teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea. This led to their dismal performance through the middle and rendered them unconvincing at times.

Fellaini compared with other midfielders*

Marouane Fellaini is exactly the sort of player Manchester United needs right now given his promising background. He may have zero experience in the Champions League, however his talent would be a good acquisition allowing him to nurture under Moyes.

As for Kagawa, he's not really a midfielder United needs as he's too lightweight to play upfront for the time being. It is OK when he's playing against the likes of Norwich and other relatively weak times but a more aggressive side can make him suffer. That is precisely why Fergie preferred playing him on the left flank. This made it a little difficult to mark him and gave him more freedom to use his undoubted dribbling ability.


Shinji Kagawa deserves some more time at United without a doubt. It’s all about adaptation for the young player and he can do it. Till the time Kagawa becomes a real threat in the midfield area, he may be played in different positions or even allowed to choose his own area of expertise. After all, that's not asking a player to perform out of position – it is utilising a player’s strengths for the benefit of the esteemed football club.

Having said all that, there is no reason why Fellaini’s acquisition will help Moyes and Manchester United to go on and win the 21^st Premier league title. It would be nice to see him perform well with the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson and Tom Cleverley.

Rooneys' Blackmailers arrested...!!!

Police have arrested three people for demanding vast sum for a camera which contained pictures of the Rooneys along with their baby Kai.

Coleen was allegedly targeted after losing a camera at a concert that contained private pictures of her 15-month-old son Kai. The sum demanded was somewhere in "five figures".But police were tipped off and the trio - two men and a woman - were arrested in September in a sting operation.

Coleen was with Wayne, 25, at a Black Eyed Peas gig at Manchester's MEN Arena in May last year when she accidentally left the camera in a £2,500-a-night private box. It is believed an extortion gang grabbed Coleen’s camera after she put it down on a table in the hospitality suite during the concert nine months ago.

The police later arrested two men, aged 28 and 41, and a woman aged 25 in a dramatic swoop.

All the suspects were quizzed before being bailed pending further inquiries until March 9. It is not known whether the camera has been recovered.

The couple’s spokesman Ian Monk said: 'Wayne and Coleen take their son’s privacy very seriously but they cannot say anything else at this stage as the matter is the subject of a police inquiry.’

Manchester United to open new offices in Mayfair soon!

Good news for Manchester United fans living in London, your favourite club is soon going to move closer to you geographically as well. United have agreed a deal to occupy 11,500 sq ft of luxurious new office space in Mayfair, the heart of London's West End!

This deal only attracts more supporters from London than Manchester, and eases off the frustration from the club's fans who feel the Glazer family have lost touch with its roots.

However, the deal also highlights the commercial success the Glazer's, who bought United in 2005, have enjoyed since launching operations in London three years ago.

The club set up a team in a Pall Mall office building designed to secure new sponsorship deals from around the world. It said London was a more practical base for overseas companies travelling to the UK for sponsorship talks. However, the 45-man operation is understood to have grown too large for the St James's office, leading to the move to Mayfair.

Sir Alex to break his BBC boycott to pay tribute to David Beckham

Each one of us is familiar with Sir Alex's resolve to not to speak on BBC after a documentary by the BBC put his son Jason, then a football manager, in bad light.

Since then, he has spoken to the BBC just once, to pay tribute to Sir Bobby Robson. And now, he is set to break his resolve once more, this time to pay tribute to David Beckham.

Sir Alex and Beckham have enjoyed a healthy relation over the years with Becks going on the record to describe Ferguson as a "fatherly figure".

Beckham is set to receive the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Sports Personality of the Year, tomorrow and Sir Alex has recorded a special tribute for him.

Beckham played for United from 1992-2003, appearing in 265 matches and scoring 62 goals in his glorious career. He was then sold to Real Madrid. Now, Beckham plays for MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy. He has also played for England, at U-18, U-21 and international level. In his illustrious career, the player has won almost everything a person could dream of. He also participates actively in charity work and enjoys a healthy relation with his wife Victoria and three kids.

ManUnited vs Arsenal: PREVIEW

The United vs. Arsenal match on Monday will be a battle as intense as ever. If the rumors are to be believed, the two sides have already faced each other many times this season, though for signing new players. The Utd-Arsenal match is always a heated affair, with both managers getting more competitive with age and their desire for trophies seems to be ever growing. Even though Arsenal haven’t won a trophy since 2005, their youth finally looks like they could repay their manager with a piece of silverware for his continued belief in them.


On the pitch, this will be their first meeting since United thrashed Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates last season. Arsenal are the current table toppers, one point ahead of United but having played a match more than them. United’s match last weekend was called off because of unplayable conditions at the Blackpool stadium. This allowed Arsene Wenger’s side to go on the top of the premier league table.

Both teams are at their best and after winning their respective matches in the Champions League to qualify for the next round, brimming with confidence. United are still unbeaten in the league but have drawn far too many games for their liking. Arsenal, on the other hand, have tasted defeat against West Brom, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham. What’s even more worrying for them is that 3 out of 4 losses have been at home. The two sides have had an almost similar start to the season, with Chelsea dominating in the early stages. But now, after making full use of Chelsea’s slip-ups, the clubs are on the 1st and 2nd spot in the league.

Both teams go into the match with a sense of rejuvenation following the return of their star strikers from long term injury troubles. Wayne Rooney is yet to score a goal from open play but has looked sharper and fitter since his return from US. Robin Van Persie too is yet to regain his top form. But these are the kind of players who just need a sniff at goal to regain their top form and once they reach their prime, they turn into a defender’s nightmare.

Also, both the teams might go in without their main playmakers. Paul Scholes missed the Valencia match due to injury and Cesc Fabregas too missed his team’s last few matches because of an injury he picked up against Braga. Though, United’s Anderson and Arsenal’s Samir Nasri have looked like they could easily fill in the void left by the two playmakers. Both scored a goal in their midweek Champions League fixture to take their side into the knockout round.

Comparing the two teams, apart from defense, where United have a stronghold, the teams are almost similar in their approach, with both the managers showing ample faith in their youth. Though in defense, Vidic and Rio form a formidable pair, something that Arsenal lack and the injury to their main man Vermaelen has done nothing to improve the situation. Also, the young defender K.Gibbs got injured playing against Partizan and had to be substituted in the 30th minute. United seem to have finally settled their back four with Rafael, Vidic, Rio and Evra making it difficult for any player to go past them. Between the posts, Van Der Sar is still the best in the premier league. His ability to spot the players making a run is unmatched and he’s a player United are going to miss the most once he decides to retire. Fabianski seems to have taken over Almunia for Arsenal and apart from a few hiccups, his performances have been satisfactory. In the midfield, Nani and Park have been consistently playing well and scoring goals for United. Ryan Giggs has regained his fitness and that’s a good news for them. Fletcher might be fit to play after facing an injury. Arsenal have an unlikely hero in Alexis Song who has scored a few important goals this season, along with Nasri and Arshavin, the Russian winger who has scored against United in the past. Chamakh has looked like the buy-of-the-season and has been chipping in goals ever since his arrival in the EPL. For United, the return of Rooney has helped Berbatov and the duo celebrated their return as partners with a 7 goal haul against Blackburn, Berba scoring 5 of them.

Last season, United won both fixtures. The match at OT ended at 2-1 win for United, but it was decided by Abu Diaby’s header into his own net, trying to clear a Ryan Giggs’ free-kick. The match at Emirates was a rather one sided affair with United winning by a comfortable 3-1, thanks to two quick first half goals by Nani and Rooney and a third goal in the second half by Ji Sung Park. Nani’s performance in that match was described as “his best-ever” by Sir Alex Ferguson who would be hoping that the Portugese would produce another such display this time too.

All in all, an even affair and the fans can expect a thriller at Old Trafford. I go with a 2-0 victory for United with Rooney scoring both the goals. Drop in your predictions and keep humming,

A week full of rumors...!

Like any other week, there were numerous rumours surrounding the transfer of player to and from United. Here is a brief look at the players concerned:

1. Bastian Schweinsteiger:

At 26 ,a perfect mix of young but experienced, this Right footed German international who has been in Bayern since 1998, first in the youth team and then in the senior squad, is strongly been linked with United. The rumors gained strength when the player refused to renew his contract with the club. Schweinsteiger has won many trophies in his still continuing career including five Bundesliga titles, five German Cups and two League Cups. 


A versatile player who can play almost anywhere in midfield, he has excellent dribbling skills, and is a specialist at set pieces, an area where United are still missing Ronaldo. Schweinsteiger also has a hard shot, and often scores from outside the penalty area. He is also noted to have "boundless energy" referring to "Schweini's" incredible stamina and ability to motor up and down the field for the entire length of matches, while playing at a consistently strong level. Though United are keenly monitoring the player who is supposed to fill the void once Paul Scholes retires, Bayern Chairman released a statement saying “our goal is to agree a long-term contract extension. And we've agreed … that Bastian will not under any circumstances be allowed to leave until his contract ends.'' 


Though the player himself admitted that his brother, a Manchester United fan, is constantly nagging him about joining United. Though United are set to fight Inter, Real and Chelsea if they are to sign this talented midfielder.

Strange :The new Manchester United kit            Kuyt in the new Liverpool kit            and Van Der Sar's kit last year

Surprisingly, the new away kit for Manchester United for the latest season 2010-2011 is quite similar to the Liverpool's away shirt which was released to the public on 8th of July. Unlike Manchester Untied they released their shirt 2 months and 11 days in advance! The Manchester United away kit was released on Saturday 18/09/2010 the day before Liverpool comes to Old Trafford for a grill, hope the weather is good. Also both these kits have a weird similarity to United's goalie kit for hte last year. Of course this year's theme is the tiger and the purple coloured.

I'd like to apologise for not being consistent as I had many other commitments.. I'm sorry for not publishing anything since last February.. I wish that had been done.

Danny Welbeck moves to Preston on a loan till the end of the season

Danny Welbeck has made a shocking move to Preston on a loan deal between Manchester United and Preston.

This move will certainly be a talking topic as Preston is managed by Darren Ferguson (Son of Sir Alex Ferguson) and his Dad gave away such a wonderful striker to his own son till the end of the season.

Preston, who are currently 17th in the Championship and 6 points ahead of relegation zone, do need some good attackers to move up some places. To make this happen, Darren has used quite a nice technique and demanding a good Manchester born striker from his very own Dad! Sir Alex also has agreed in lending off Danny for this season at least.

This is Darren's first signing as a manager of Preston and it has been quite an easy one in fact. Welbeck who has scored 5 goals for Manchester United in 24 appearances has been remarked as quite a good winger as well as an attacking striker.

Danny has featured a lot in the Carling Cup games this season and scored 1 goal already. He has even scored in the Champions League against Besiktas. He's the man to watch in the future. Please note that Danny has already signed a 4 year contract with United and hence committed to the club. He just needs some regular games under his belt.

Another popular Man United associated signing that Preston did was of David Beckham. Yes! Even David Beckham was on loan for a while at Preston in the year 1995. He scored 2 goals there in 5 appearances at that time before moving back to United in 1996-97 season. During the 10 years he spent with United, 1993-2003 , he scored 62 goals in 265 appearances. I can say without any doubt that even the man himself regrets moving to Real Madrid when he failed to find the back of the net and hence forced to move to America.. Look at him now, he's enjoying a lucrative and goal-less life in A.C. Milan!

David Beckham was on a loan at Preston North End in the year 1995 after joining United in 1993

Will be fun to see Beckham at Old Trafford in March.

But back to the Danny Welbeck loan signing, I think its a good move for both the parties. Apart from strengthening he bond between the father and the son, this move will greatly benefit Preston and Welbeck. Welbeck, at this stage of his career needs some regular games and be treated as a main striker. I don't think he would mind if its a Championship side. He can assist Preston with some handy goals in the 2nd half of the season and really strengthen their squad to take them to some new heights that Preston hasn't reached for quite a while now.

And then when Welbeck returns to Manchester United in 2010 summer, hopefully his class would be on another level and he would perhaps be respected as an all new and powerful striker.

That's what Premier League is all about!

Wayne Rooney may be the Next United Captain once Gary Neville has retired

The Next United Captain?

Wayne Rooney, 24, is reportedly told to be the next captain of Manchester United once Neville retires at the end of this season.

Wayne Rooney has no experience as a captain at United. He has only featured once as a losing Captain against Brazil in a friendly International at Doha.

However, United manager Alex Ferguson, once said that he would prefer either a defender or a Midfielder as a United leader. It will be interesting to see how things shape up after Neville's exit from United.

Rooney has been a huge success since he was bought from Everton in 2002. He has scored whooping 112 goals (from all competitions) in his 261 named appearances. Of course nobody can beat that! But the question is: Will he be a successful captain at United?

Chelsea skipper John Terry called on his club to sign the £35million-rated Valencia striker in the summer, but all of Villa's English admirers were told he had no intention of leaving Spain.

However, the 27-year-old has since been talking to Premier League-based compatriots about life across the Bay of Biscay and admits he could be interested in a move.

"Honestly? There can be a thousand scenarios," said Villa. 'I'm not saying that I am opening the doors to anywhere, but I'm not closing them.

'Neither Europe nor Africa, nor to America, nor Korea. I don't shut the door to anywhere because I have a short career and I want to enjoy it.' Villa may have been ever diplomatic, but the Spain star has previously been reluctant to fuel talk of leaving the Mestalla.

Valencia's crippling debts mean they will have to consider serious offers for their prized asset, who was also wanted by Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and ManCity in the summer.

Villa has once again been in hot form, topping the La Liga scoring chart with nine goals in 10 starts to help Valencia to fourth in the table.

And the former Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon hopes for a successful season ahead of a likely exit next summer. 'There are no titles won in November, but we'll fight to win them to the end, we are sure of that. People are happy about our performance and hopefully we continue playing this for a long time.

'We want to be candidates when we get to the final two months, but not only in the league, also in the Cup and Europa League.'

Fergie not willing to spend "too much" at the Winter transfer Window

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated that he does not plan to spend massive amounts of cash on new players in the January transfer window.

The Scot maintains value for money is difficult to find in the winter market, when the short time available to deal means clubs demand ridiculous prices for players.

United have been linked with a swoop for versatile Everton youngster Jack Rodwell, with prices as high as £20 million being quoted in some reports.

But Ferguson insists that he has no intention to spend big.

"I'm in the same position as I was in the summer," said Ferguson, according to skysports.com.

"There are a lot of players out there, all valued by their current clubs at £50million. Given the prices being asked, I just do not see the value."

Ronaldo wants Rooney at Real Madrid!

Cristiano Ronaldo says he would love to see his former Manchester United team-mate Rooney follow him to Real Madrid, and that the England star has all the qualities to be a raging success in Spain.

Ronaldo left Old Trafford in the summer for a record £80 million fee to complete a dream move to the Spanish giants, following in the footsteps of former United stars Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham in recent times. Now Ronaldo thinks Rooney should walk the same path.

The Portuguese winger immediately impressed with Madrid scoring nine goals in seven games before suffering an ankle injury which has kept him on the sidelines for the past month. And while he admits Rooney is unlikely to leave England any time soon, Ronaldo believes the 24-year-old would fit in at the Bernabeu.

"Wayne would be a sensation out here. I think we could do with Rooney to help us out,'' Ronaldo told The Sun. "He would be brilliant if he came. This is the ideal place for the world's best players and there's little doubt he is one of them.

"Wayne has all the skill and deetermination you need to make a fine career her. He has shown just how good he is over the last few years in England. And there's no doubt he would be the same sort of player in Spain. It would be lovely to see him here one day at Real Madrid.

"I realise it would take a lot for him to move from England. He loves the country, he loves Manchester and he is a Liverpool boy. And United is a good club for him. But you never know what could happen in the future.''

Fergie needs to unleash Michael Owen a bit more perhaps!

So why only give Owen five minutes at the end of the game?

Fergie set Michael Owen a target of 15 goals in a United shirt at the start of this season.

Three months into the season, Owen is almost a third of the way there having struck four goals in 16 appearances which included United's most important goal of the season in a Manchester Derby when Michael Owen came on as a substitute and scored and secured 3 points for United. But a closer look at the stats adds a touch of polish to Owen’s strike-rate with the 29-year-old having started just six of his 16 outings.

Once again, as United lost third time this season at Chelsea on Sunday, Owen was named as a substitute by Ferguson.

By the time he was called from the bench on 85 minutes, United were approaching desperation as they attempted to salvage at least a point. Owen barely had a sight of goal when he came on, but what else could be expected?

United’s defeat at Chelsea was undoubtedly a blow to their title hopes, but their performance was impressive and only wasteful finishing (+ thanks to an awesome performance by Czech), and the absence of a strike-partner for Wayne Rooney, denied them a point or even three.

So why only give Owen five minutes at the end of the game?

After luring Owen to Old Trafford, Ferguson spoke of patiently building up his fitness following four injury-ravaged years on Tyneside. But Owen arrived in June, so he has now had five months to get himself back up to speed. In that time, he has suffered one minor injury setback, so if he is not ready now, he never will be.

Rooney was awesome in the lone striker role at Stamford Bridge, but the England forward works better when he has somebody to feed off and create chances for.

So what about Owen? Has the time now come for him to be given the Premier League opportunity that his patience and track record arguably deserve? One certainty is that he won’t score goals while sat on the bench. He has shown glimpses of his predatory instinct, so perhaps he should now be unleashed from the start of games.

Let's talk about his form this season. He has appeared in nearly every game for United (mostly as a sub). He has missed 60-70% of the chances he got. A few of the chances were nothing but sitters. I guess he's nervous! coz the mistakes he does sometimes are the ones done by amateur footballers. He has hammered plenty of shots right into the goalkeapers. BUT! the talking point must be his contribution to the 4-3 win against Man City. I reckon that was the most important goal scored by United so far because derbies are not meant to end in draws ;) Overall i would give him 6/10 considering his performance this whole season.

But those pointing to the loss of Carlos Tevez as another factor behind United’s blunted edge miss the point that Owen’s record this season is better than the Argentine’s. Tevez has scored four goals in 13 appearances for Manchester City, but while Owen has started six games for United, Tevez has been a substitute just once. Two of his goals have come against the might of Crystal Palace and Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup. The other two against struggling West Ham. Owen has found the net against Wigan and City in the Premier League, CSKA Moscow in the Champions League and Barnsley in the Carling Cup... fairly important goals.

And while Tevez cost City £25m plus huge wages, Owen is a free transfer whose salary is a fraction of the £110,000-a-week he picked up at Newcastle. Owen is a better bet than Tevez for United, but he needs to be on the pitch.

And with United now trailing Chelsea by five points, there is no better time for Ferguson to unwrap the cotton wool and allow Owen to chase down that 15-goal target.

United cant afford to lose another game this season, especially the one against Chelsea at OT!

United cannot afford any more defeats in the Premier League this season, following their 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

John Terry was marked down as the scorer of the only goal of the game, when he nodded home from a set-piece. The results sees the west London club five points clear at the top of the table.

"After getting beat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Manchester United cannot afford to lose another game this season.

"But Chelsea can even afford to lose when they go to Old Trafford as long as they match United for the rest of the campaign.

"A five-point lead is massive for a club with Chelsea's quality, because you can't see them slipping up against the Blackburns, the Hulls, and the rest.

"Yeah, they had their blip, losing at [Aston] Villa and Wigan [Athletic].

"But that showed what they needed to tighten up on, and don't expect to see them losing at places like that again this season."
