Fabio and Rooney inspired a fledgling United squad to an encouraging FA cup victory over arch-rivals Arsenal after facing tough defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Liverpool last week. Sir Alex placed a weird side with 7 defenders featuring in the starting XI. Read how our players fared against the gunners HERE.
The outcome: Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are out of their 3rd football competition in two weeks. That's a big insult on the Gunners' face.

Wigan Athletic 0-4 Manchester United Chicharito (17', 74') Rooney 84' Fabio 87'
Manchester United eased past a weak Wigan Athletic side to end a rather important month in the calender of what seems to be a trophy-laden season which featured big games against Manchester City, Champions League draw against Marseille, FA Cup progression, a victory against Villa and a disappointing loss to Wolves. However March is the month to talk about for Manchester with some ultra-massive games against Chelsea and Liverpool (both away) and 2nd leg of Champions League against French team Marseille at home.
Moving focus back to this game, Chicharito was the star of the game in my opinion. The Pea faced assasin combined with Rooney and Nani on the flanks and demolish the Wigan side by 4 goals to nil with two goals coming from the Mexican, 1 easy tap in from Rooney and a happy ending goal by Fabio (Rafael's twin)
Chicharito has now scored a hat-trick of goals against Wigan this season, the last one coming at the home fixture at Old Trafford. This was one of his best full-game performances having said that he's a killer substitute. United's no. 14 today scored 2 more goals to take his goal tally to 13 for the season, only 7 behind Dimitar Berbatov, who could have easily made it 21 for the season but instead gave a sweet pass to team-mate Wayne Rooney who scored one of the easiest tap-ins of his career! The goal must have brought some pressure off Rooney, he's now scored regularly in his last two Premier League performances, the last one being a wonder-goal against Manchester City. How unselfish Dimi! How unselfish!
This reminds me of Luis Nani who had yet another impressive game. It seems like the lad only wants to improve at United. He recently said "This is my best season at Manchester United" and also didn't appreciate the fact that he was being constantly compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. The fact is, he just needs to pass the ball and not be a hungry goal poacher. Nani couldn't find any goals today but he did touch the inner edge of the goal post. How frustrating must that be? After that, he was constantly seen using bad words each time he took a bad shot.
Bebe and Obertan who didn't even make it to the substitute bench were observed entertaining through other means in the first half. Obertain was busy listening to his music through his Monster beats Dr. Dre headphones while Bebe was found playing a game on his smartphone. Perhaps the game was too boring in the first half.
To end the game in style, Fabio was brought on for Nani and guess what, Fabio scored. It looks like Fabio got the fruit of Nani's hard work through out the game.
Games against Wigan have always been a great opportunity for United to score as many goals as they can. They scored 10 goals in aggregate last season but only managed 6 this year (2-0 coming at Old Trafford, 4-0 at JJB)

United couldn't possibly have asked for a better start to the game after Agger's 29th second challenge on Berbatov resulted in a penalty which Giggs took comfortably to give United a lead in the first minute! In my opinion, it was a definite penalty as Berbatov was clearly fouled. Although Dimitar did fall a bit easily, the foul cannot be neglected.
33rd minute saw a horrible Gerrard tackle on Michael Carrick and Referee Howard Webb unleashed the Red card after taking his time. Perhaps the RED card decision showed Webb's affection for the Red Devils. Again, I think it was a straightforward red decision.
“Christmas came about a month early to Old Trafford.”
And indeed it did, the atmosphere was festive with the full capacity crowd enjoying Berbatov’s moment of magic. His performance was fabulous or to say, Berbalicious.
It was never going to be easy for a Blackburn side to play against a rejuvenated Manchester United at Old Trafford which was ready to welcome its star striker Wayne Rooney, his first start at Old Trafford after his contract saga. And what a reception it was. The fans put all their bitter memories behind and welcomed their favorite with loud and continuous chants of “Rooney Rooney”.
If the game was important for Rooney, it was even more important for his strike partner, Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian had not scored since his match winning performance against Liverpool and with all the rumors that the manager had finally lost his faith in the “lazy” striker and was ready to sell him flying around the pressure on his was immense.
Portugal took on Spain last week in an International fixture dated 17.11.2010 and won convincingly by a big heavy margin of 4 goals to nil. Critics say this was one of the worst defeats of Spain at the hands of Portugal.
But there was to the game than the Portugal dominance:
It was Luis Nani's birthday that day and he ruined Cristiano Ronaldo's day by heading his marvellous chipped shot which was already going into the net EASILY. To add an insult to an injury, the goal was not allowed as Nani was offside!
Nani later apologised to a furious Cristiano Ronaldo.
Yup, i guess the title for this article is appropriate because had it not been for '3 lung' Park's amazing last minute strike, the entire team was in for Fergie's "hair dryer" treatment.
And to be honest, they deserved that treatment.
If Hargreaves inclusion in the team was shocking, even more shocking were Bebe's crosses, again and again, and that too after back to back good performances in his previous appearances.
Kansas City got the better of an exposed Manchester United.
You will notice the new manchester united goalie - Ben Amos who makes 1 or 2 good saved but otherwise showed that he needs more nourishment as a young player.
I liked Berbatov's intelligent penalty kick, I guess this is the only penalty kick we've seen him taking for United. Other good aspect of the game was the partnership between Tom Cleverly and Welbeck. Really some nice 1-2 attacking displays.
This was one of the most aggressive displays seen from Manchester United in quite a while. 7 goals in 1 game reminds me of the Manchester derby last September. However, there were no Michael Owen moments in this game and the whole game was very energy filled - a great ending to the North American tour.
Javier Hernandez, United's most recent transfer from Chivas this summer for £7m, scored in his debut game 6 minutes from full-time which was like icing on cake. I'm sure Sir Alex will be more than pleased by the lovely chip from the 22 year old Mexican striker.
Macheda gave United a lead 23 seconds after play resumed and soon doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Gabriel Obertan suffered a knock on his leg and had to be substituted for Tom Cleverly who scored a lovely goal in the second half. I must admit he really did show some miraculous skill to get the ball past the goal line. Check out the highlights! Van der Sar, who celebrates his 40th b'day this October, did a fine job throughout the game, although he did receive a wild but decent scoring effort from close to the Centre-line which he somehow managed to save.
There was a huge buzz around the stadium when Chicharito was brought on for Nani (who suffered a little blow on his knee in the first half). Chicharito soon missed a great chance to make it 3-0 but he hit the ball a little wide of the goal. It was a great chemistry display from Welbeck and Chicharito.
MLS scored a goal on the other end, and soon after Gibson was brought on for Ryan Giggs. Chicarito was fouled outside the box and to make things worse for MLS, Gibson shooted a lovely ball into the net. Bang! 3-1. Then came Cleverly who netted another brilliant goal. 6 minutes from Full-time, the debutant striker Chicharito chipped a magnificent ball over the goalie making it 5-1. Boom! But the game isn't over yet, the All-Stars fired a compensation goal which got deflected off VDS.
All-in-all, a great attacking display from the Red devils who could easily convert good chances into lovely goals, something which their opponent lacked last night!
It is almost certain, Chicharito is going to live up to the expectations and we have a legend in the making.
Hail Javier Hernandez!
