United Chief Ed Woodward returns to Manchester; sparks transfer rumours

TRDS understands that Manchester United's new Chief Executive Ed Woodward is making his way back to Manchester in order to complete some urgent transfer business. What could this mean for the future of Manchester United?

In this blogpost, we present three possibilities which could have encouraged David Gill’s replacement to make an emergency halt to the 2013-14 Manchester United pre-season tour.

         1. Marouane Fellaini

We rate the likelihood of Fellaini’s transfer negotiations to be the highest. The Belgian recently suggested that if given a choice between Arsenal and Manchester United, he would undoubtedly like to join the Red Devils where he would be re-united with his ex-boss David Moyes.  We recently blogged about why Marouane’s case will be a good fit at Old Trafford (Fellaini’s post). Fellaini has a £23.5M release clause in his contract at Everton and Manchester United should easily be able to splash the cash.

The fact Fellaini already owns a house in Manchester further convinces us that he will be playing for Manchester United next season.

2.      Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas to return to Arsenal?

Manchester United recently submitted a bid of around £26M for the ex Gunner Cesc Fabregas which was soon rejected by Barcelona. It is not surprising that Fabregas feels frustrated at his club, Barcelona, due to the fierce competition he faces to feature in the starting XI. Joining Manchester United will be a right step for his career progression with the World Cup 2014 just around the corner. If Cesc can perform well at United next season, he will certainly feature for Spain in the World Cup. This might be a huge incentive for Fabregas, but then Arsenal seems interested in buying back Cesc Fabregas.

We believe Cesc will join Arsenal and the odds of his transfer to United are low.

3.      Wayne Rooney  

TRDS expects Wayne Rooney to apologise again and stay at Old Trafford.

We rate the transfer possibility of the wantaway England striker, Wayne Rooney, to be the lowest. Manchester United today officially rejected Chelsea’s £20m transfer bid for Wayne (source). Wayne is also reluctant to move abroad. Hence, TRDS predicts that Rooney will stay at United for another year. He will simply not be allowed by the club to leave.

All in all, TRDS believes that Ed Woodward’s eratic return to Manchester United signals the signing of a player and we predict that it is of Marouane Fellaini, the ominous Beligian midfielder.

Manchester United are all set to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow in a start of would could be a row of difficult fixtures. After Stamford Bridge, United travel to the Scousers ( other name for Liverpool fc ) five days later; a week after which they could face Arsenal in an FA Cup clash. If United face Arsenal on the 12th, then the Gunner's probability of winning a trophy this season will come down to one-half. No wonder the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was dreaming of 4 trophies this year and beating United's Treble (Red Devil's class of 1998-99). Suddenly it's come down to three and I'm 100% sure it will be 2 when Arsenal face us on the 12th if not sooner i.e if Leyton Orient don't defeat Arsenal at the Emirates!


Moving over to the Bridge clash, Manchester United will go there with huge confidence after defeating their favourite rivals - Wigan Athletic at their home with 4 goals to nil. Before, that they faced a tough 0-0 draw against a resilient Marseille.


The only concern for United so far this season has been the away games.  The Red Devils have only managed 9 victories in the 19 away fixtures they've played in all 4 competitions so far this season. That statistic definitely has to improve and there is no better chance than Stamford Bridge where United's form has been utterly dismal. United last managed a league victory at the Stamford Bridge back in 2002 (thats 8 years from now) which is indeed a shameful fact.


United started the season brilliantly by defeating Chelsea 3-1 in the Community Shield charity game just prior to the season with goals coming from Antonio Valencia, Berbatov and Chicharito Hernandez (Watch all the goals below). Berbatov killed the game in the end by scoring a lovely clip over goal. Elegance at its best! But Chicharito (Javier Hernadez) stole the show by scoring a goal on his debut and that too coming off his face! This shows that the mexican's face is good enough to face Chelsea..

United-Chelsea fixture MAYBE postponed till the end of the season

"The Sun" has been speculating of a possibility of two back-to-back United-Chelsea fixtures towards the end of the season, and if that occurs then we're all set to witness an interesting end to this rather strange Premier League season so far. 

CHELSEA and Manchester United face a potential end-of-season title play-off as Premier League bosses struggle to cope with a fixture backlog.

The rivals are already due to play at Old Trafford on May 7 in a match which is sure to have a huge say in the championship race.

But they could meet again 10 days later after Sunday's Stamford Bridge match was cancelled.

Contingency plans are being put in place following last weekend's snow-hit programme.

And with further postponements looming over Christmas and New Year, England's top teams face a chaotic season's finale.

United have already had two games postponed. The Blackpool visit will now take place on January 25 but a slot for Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea looks harder to find.

Both clubs face a possible 15 games in April and May due to possible Champions League and FA Cup commitments.

The Premier League sets aside four contingency dates each season.

But the first three - January 11 and 24, plus April 19 - are dependent on FA Cup replays.

That leaves the midweek of May 17 and 18 as the only other available slot, just days before the final league games on May 22.

League chiefs are sure they can avoid a pile-up. A spokesman said: "We will work with affected clubs to get new dates agreed."

Christmas came early against B'burn

November was a heavy scoring month for Manchester United. United was involved in 25 goals out of which 12 were witnessed over a period of 4 days. (Blackburn and West Ham) Other than the West Ham game, United has been on the scoring end apart from the drama at Aston Villa which was funnily enough the last draw United saw so till now in this season. I think it is time to dump the past and look ahead at the bright 6 fixture for this month - December.

United's performance so far this season has been quite terrific as people might argue otherwise. They are still undefeated in the season and teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and City have lost at least lost thrice so far. Liverpool and Spurs are definitely out of the equation for Top 4 this season.

Carlos Tevez's second half solo effort ended Chelsea's 100% start to the season in a 1-0 defeat at Eastlands. This news is a big boost for United's title hopes. This was the first real test for Chelsea and they failed it!

We're all set for another Man U Chelsea Community Shield next Sunday at 3.00 PM at the massive Wembley Stadium.

As of now, Didier Drogba is injured, Chelsea doesnt has Cole or Ballack anymore, they should have a relatively new side.

All the World Cup players would return to the squad in the the friendly game in Dublin, the lads must be extremely confident after a successful North American tour with the United youth squad members playing primarily and also with the presence of the talented Mexican striker - Javier Hernandez "Chicharito".

It would be great to see Man U lift their first trophy of the season, it would boost their confidence to go on and win the Premier League which I'm pretty sure they would.

In recent years, the Community Shield has always been broadcast live on Sky Sports with highlights on either BBC or ITV. The only exception was the 2008 Community Shield, which was broadcast on Setanta Sports. After the collapse of Setanta, Sky regained the rights for the 2009 Community Shield between Manchester United and Chelsea – a replay of the last Community Shield game Sky had. The commentary team for this game is usually Andy Gray and Martin Tyler.

The number of late goals scored by Manchester United FC this season have been astonishing!

Leaving apart the fantastic football they've played so far this season, I would like to touch upon two things that the Red Devils have done very masterfully this season - something that is pretty hard to find so consistently and yet has become an avatar for modern football.

United cant afford to lose another game this season, especially the one against Chelsea at OT!

United cannot afford any more defeats in the Premier League this season, following their 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

John Terry was marked down as the scorer of the only goal of the game, when he nodded home from a set-piece. The results sees the west London club five points clear at the top of the table.

"After getting beat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Manchester United cannot afford to lose another game this season.

"But Chelsea can even afford to lose when they go to Old Trafford as long as they match United for the rest of the campaign.

"A five-point lead is massive for a club with Chelsea's quality, because you can't see them slipping up against the Blackburns, the Hulls, and the rest.

"Yeah, they had their blip, losing at [Aston] Villa and Wigan [Athletic].

"But that showed what they needed to tighten up on, and don't expect to see them losing at places like that again this season."

Drogba kicked badly by Johny Evans, Vidic laughs out!

I felt kinda sad for Drogba because he got yellow carded which was absolutely pointless! But on the other hand, one feels the pain he suffered was "justified?" because he has hurt so many players and referees around the world.

But still the yellow card really came out of nowhere. Blame the Ref!

Look at Vidic, he is really enjoying the moment. As if he conspired Evans to do this in his absence! Well planned Reds!!!
