Old Trafford will witness United's new anthem ahead of Manchester Derby

A new Manchester United anthem will be publicly played at Old Trafford for the first time before the derby game against Manchester City.

The song is called the ‘United Road’ and was written by Will Robinson and Daniel Ryan, the same song writers who produced the re-worked 2009 version of 'Glory Glory Man United' which featured Korean violinist Jenny Bae.
The vocals on ‘United Road’ will be performed by Richie, who previously sang ‘Manchester United Number One’.
Robinson and Ryan, who also wrote 'Chico Is The Man' - the Javier Hernandez song – are currently recording an album all about Manchester United which will be released later this year.
"I am totally inspired to write lyrics about United - they have achieved so much and are a great club,” said Robinson.
'United Road' by the World Red Army can be bought on itunes.com. The link for iTunes download is THIS. The price of the new Manchester United anthem is only 79 pence. So grab your copy now!!!

OMG!! Its the Derby day

Manchester Derby is one of the most happening events in the North-West Britain
A derby is a sporting contest between rivals from the same district. The origin of the name “Derby” has itself led to controversies with various theories being put out; no wonder the derby matches are hell lot more intense than the normal fixtures.
There are various intense derbies around the world, the El-Classico (Real Madrid vs Barcelona) in Spain, the Rhône-Alpes Derby (Lyon vs Saint-Étienne) in France, the Derby della Madonnina (Internazionale vs AC Milan) in Italy, Ajax vs PSV in Netherlands along with the Merseyside Derby (Liverpool vs Everton), Birmingham Derby (Bermingham vs Aston Villa), London Derby (Chelsea vs Spurs and Arsenal vs Spurs) being amongst the most awaited ones.
Manchester United, perhaps the most famous club in the world, too has its fair share of Derby matches with Liverpool, Manchester City, Celtic and Leeds United A.F.C. being their “bitter rivals”.
1. The War of Reds (vs. Liverpool):
It is probably one of the fiercest rivalries in English football, rather in world football. Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the biggest sporting clubs in the world. They are both proud sides with a glorious history and the fans of both teams are equally passionate about their club. The clubs have won a staggering 116 titles, 58 each, between them. The fixture is usually played at midday to discourage fans from drinking before the game.
The origins of this rivalry point towards the rivalries of the two cities since industrial times. Liverpool and Manchester were challenging for supremacy of the north west of England. Manchester was renowned for its excellent manufacturing capabilities, whilst Liverpool had long been a major city due to its port. However, once the Manchester Ship Canal was built, ships were able to bypass Liverpool to carry goods directly to Manchester. The loss in jobs in Liverpool no doubt strengthened the hostilities between the two cities.
The first match between the clubs was on 12 October 1895 which Liverpool won 7-1. There have been 152 league matches since. Manchester United have won 58, Liverpool 51 and there have been 43 draws.
Liverpool dominated English football during the 1970s and 1980s, claiming the league title eleven times and the European Cup on four occasions during that period. Manchester United however, have dominated the 1990s and 2000s, winning the league title eleven times, a European Continental Treble (European Cup, the Premiership and the FA Cup) in 1999, two domestic Doubles and The European Double of the Premier League and European Cup in 2008.
Both sets of players relish playing against each other and the build up to the match day includes intense mind games with taunts and comments flying around. Wayne Rooney, a product of Liverpool’s city rivals Everton described how, although he is from Liverpool, he grew up hating them. Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard took a film crew on tour of his home where he showed off a collection of football shirts he had swapped with opposing players as part of the after match routine. He pointed out that there was no Manchester United shirt in there and that he would never have one of them in his house. In his autobiography, he also said, “during 90 minutes of football, I want United to die.”

"He hates SCOUSERS"
Gary Neville a.k.a. the “Scouse Hater” has been publicly vocal in the past with regards to his dislike of Liverpool. Following a fixture where John O’Shea scored a stoppage time winner in front of the Kop in 2007, Neville described O’Shea’s achievement as “a lifelong dream” for himself. Neville was booed by Liverpool fans for his role in celebrating in front of them in 2006, kissing the crest on his jersey and appearing to shout angrily towards the fans. The look of passionate hate on his face led to an FA review. He has headbutted Steve McManaman in the past leading to the fans singing a song proclaiming “he hates scousers”.
Nothing drives Sir Alex Ferguson more than this rivalry. During his reign as the United manager, he has seen off Kenny Dalglish, Ronnie Moran, Graeme Souness, Roy Evans, Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez and not one of them has won the league on his watch.
The rivalry between the two clubs is so intense that since the 1964 transfer of Phil Chisnall from United to Liverpool, no player has been directly transferred.
The fans of both the teams have been involved in various regrettable incidents too. At the 1996 FA Cup Final, a Liverpool fan spat at Eric Cantona and threw a punch at Alex Ferguson as a victorious Manchester United team walked up the steps at Wembley Stadium to collect the trophy. After an FA Cup match in 2006 between the clubs, an ambulance carrying Alan Smith, who had broken his leg during the match, was attacked on its way to the hospital by Liverpool fans. At Anfield, fans are banned from going near the away team entrance on Match day following an incident in the late 1990′s where a Liverpool fan threw an egg at Alex Ferguson.
To sum up the rivalry, Sir Alex’s comment says it all:
“My greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool off their f*****g perch”
2. The Manchester derby:
The rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City goes back a long way, almost as far back as the beginning of football in England. And the two clubs have been contesting a local derby, on and off, for nearly 130 years.
The first derby was played on the 12th of November 1881. A newspaper at the time called the contest “a pleasant match.” In those days the derbies between the two Manchesters lacked the intensity we see today. Indeed, it was common in the first half of the last century for fans in the Manchester area to support both clubs, attending one team’s match one week and the other team’s match the next.
Though with time the matches began to get fiercer. In 1970, for instance, George Best broke the leg of City’s Glyn Pardoe with a tackle. Pardoe’s leg break was so bad doctors feared they’d have to remove it. Pardoe was out of the game for nearly two years as a result of the injury.
In 1974, City’s Mike Doyle and United’s Lou Macari were both red-carded in a derby, yet both refused to leave the field! Only after the referee ordered the teams off the pitch did they finally accept their punishment.
Though there have been some moments that will never be forgotten for their soberness. Denis Law who played for City, then for United and then again for City refused to celebrate his goal for City against United. He was substituted almost immediately after scoring and left the pitch in sadness, his head hanging low. He never played professional club football again and retired from the game soon after.

United vs City games are always full of action and drama
City’s trophy cabinet is a smaller one than United’s and this has made City the second team in Manchester. The results of the Manchester Derby over the years prove United’s dominance. (132 games played, with United winning 52 of them, City 36, and 44 draws.)
In recent years, however, “The Noisy Neighbors” have been making noise with the injection of foreign cash to buy big name players, and their presence in the English Premier League may now be almost taken for granted.
Last season City finished 5th to United’s 2nd, and contended for a higher finish almost the entire campaign.
If the cash-rich City manages to achieve their goal and topple United from their perch as Manchester’s better team, the Manchester Derby will assume a greater importance than ever.
3. Roses Rivalry (vs. Leeds United A.F.C.)
This rivalry is considered to be a sporting manifestation of the established rivalry between the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire, which can be traced back to the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars fought between the House of York and the House of Lancaster for the throne of England during the 15th century.
Both sets of fans topped in Hooliganism in the 1970s and their clashes led to some of the most violent clashes in British football. The Industrial Revolution in Britain during the 18th and 19th centuries added fuel to the fire. Manchester’s cotton industry was highly successful and it also ruined the traditional Yorkshire woolen industry, due to cotton being far cheaper to produce. This left the weavers in Yorkshire feeling undercut and a loathing for the new wealth in Manchester began to set in.

The Lancashire Rose

The Yorkshire White
There have been forgettable incidents in the rivalry. In 1994, on the death of Sir Matt Busby, a minute’s silence was held, and impeccably observed, at almost every ground. But not at Ewood Park. There, hundreds of Leeds United fans disrupted the tribute to the formerManchester United manager by chanting: “There’s only one Don Revie.”
The transfers from Leeds of Joe Jordan and Gordon McQueen in 1978 made matters worse. Then there was Eric Cantona was transferred from Leeds and became a fan favorite at Old Trafford almost instantly. The hostility directed at Cantona on his returns to Elland Road was palpable. Other notable transfers from Leeds to Manchester include Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith.
4. Battle of Britain (vs. Celtic):
The name is applied to games played between English and Scottish teams. The reason of the rivalry is unknown but theories suggest that the influence and popularity of Manchester United in Ireland has led to both sets of fans getting jealous of each other. Also, two of the most illustrious figures at OT, Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex are Scottish and the fact did nothing to reduce the rivalry. Since the two teams are in separate leagues, their on-pitch clashes are limited to Champions League ties.

Match 12 Review: All money, No play makes CITY look like an IDIOT (Video)

“If Sir Alex is given 170 million for transfers, he will probably create an invincible team.”
These were the words of the commentators when they calculated the net worth of players in the City starting XI. Add to that 90 millions on the bench and you can see why everyone hates them. 260 million worth of players and still no trophy to show.
The build up to this derby was intense with players and manager of both the teams coming out in the media to taunt the other.
Both the teams started with a full strength squad that was available to the managers for selection with United opting for a 4-3-2-1 formation to tackle City’s somewhat similar formation. United had a full strength defense with Rafael, Vidic, Rio and Evra along with a strong midfield that consisted of Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes. The hero of the last match, J.S. Park and Nani started as wingers with Berbatov alone up front.

It hardly took one minute for the game to heat up with Paul Scholes committing a foul when the clock read just 35 seconds. This was the first of many challenges from the midfield maestro. It seemed that the game would just get more intense from here but that was not the case to be. The first half of the highly anticipated Manchester derby had nothing much to excite the noisy crowd of 47000 present in the stadium apart from a Tevez free kick which was managed pretty awesomely by our “Flying Dutchman”. Apart from that, there was a chance for Evra, when the left back took the ball into the penalty area with a delightful footwork only to see his shot hurled right at Joe Hart.
In the 42nd minute, Scholes was given a long due yellow card for his rash (for us, awesome ;)) challenges.

Rafael, the Brazilian left back who “tamed” Gareth Bale a few days ago against Tottenham certainly had Tevez and Silva “in his pocket” for the entire first half, matching Silva in terms of pace. The main highlight of the half, or rather the entire match, came when Rafael and Tevez had an intense war of words just before the end of first half. The Argentine “twat” was probably frustrated by the lack of chances his team had created. The referee had to intervene along with a few players to separate them ending the first half with a promise of a fiery second half.

Watch the Rafael Tevez fight incident video

But again, the crowd was disappointed as both teams concentrated on defending rather than scoring. United were forced to make an early substitution in the second half when Rafael, who entered the ground limping slightly in the II half, had to be substituted after just 5 minutes of play. Wes Brown took his place at the Right Back.

Evra too had to be substituted for John O’Shea because of an injury he picked up in the first half. The story of the second half was similar to the first, though United enjoyed a bit more possession in the second half as compared to the first. A creative move saw Wes Brown's cross to Berbatov whose shot went straight into the hands of Hart. Just an inch to the right or left of the keeper and surely Berba would have celebrated in style. City had a chance later when a slight defensive error from O’Shea led to a strike by Zabaleta which went over the post. Both teams made changes with City bringing on Adam Johnson for Milner, Kolarov for Boateng and Adebayor for Tevez and United bringing on Chicarito for Berbatov. Though, none of them had much of a chance to make an impact on the game that ended in a goalless draw.

Analyzing the performance of the players, one has to agree that when Rio and Vidic combine at the heart of the defense, it becomes impossible for the opposition players to break through.

Rafael was excellent before being substituted by an injury and so was Evra who was a constant threat for City denfense with his fast runs to the other end of the pitch. Scholes was as-ever at his best with Carrick performing slightly better than in his previous outings. Fletcher was outstanding in the second half giving away everything when United were defending on the break. Berbatov didn’t have much to do and Park and Nani did enough to get a draw out of this tricky fixture.

This is what the BOSS had to say after the match: "City are very difficult to beat on their own
ground, that's obvious from the way they set their stall out in the second half. But I think there was maybe too much tension for the game to be as open as people thought it was going to be. I was pleased with the control we had of the game and some of our football was very good. We were very confident, we had good composure on the ball but we needed to make chances and we needed to win the match. In that sense we only had two openings, two
chances, one in the first half and one in the second half from open play. So that's a bit disappointing for us."
Next up for United is Aston Villa, away from home on Saturday. Till then sing it loud “GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED”

Manchester City 0-0 Manchester United (Quick highlights)

Preview: An injury plagued United all set for an epic Manchester derby

Match 12: Manchester Derby!!
Manchester City vs Manchester United
8 PM K.O (GMT)

Derby games don't get bigger than this. It's gonna be an epic derby because of the following reasons:

1) Manchester United haven't lost a single game so far this season, so maintaining this at Eastlands would be a big task.

2) Manchester City have started off brilliantly. They sit at a comfortable 4th spot with only 3 points away from United.

3) Tevez is in great form and he is back from Argentina fully fit for the derby. On the other hand, there is no Wayne Rooney for United - which means there is a lot of stress on the Bulgarian striker - Dimitar Berbatov.

4) Chelsea host Fulham in a West London derby tomorrow and if Chelsea lose at Stamford Bridge and United win at Eastlands, United will be top of the table!!

Injury crisis for Manchester United

Manchester United suffer more injury blows as Darren Fletcher (ankle) and Luis Nani (groin) are both injured after the Champions League v Bursaspor, Turkey.

Nani- injured his groin. A painful setback.
Nani's groin injury
He looked in a bad shape and limped off the game. As a result he had to be substituted in the 29th minute by Park Ji-Sung the amazingly hard working Korean.

Sir Alex said: "Nani has a groin injury and is out for Saturday and I think Darren will be out as well"

Darren Fletcher ankle injury
Darren Fletcher- Down with Ankle Injury
After scoring a stunning goal in the 48th minute, Fletcher had to be replaced by Portugese signing Bebe.

Bebe grasped the opportunity and scored another sleek goal with a cool finish. Funny enough, last time Fletcher was injured was in a Champions League team as well (CSKA MOSCOW) and it was the same ankle injury and in the first week of November.

Hence, Fletcher needs to take care in November, 2011.

At the moment United are without key players including Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs. Find out who else is injured by clicking HERE

Glory Glory Man United, hope majority of the players are fit for the Derby clash against Manchester City at Eastlands on 11-10-2010

Old Trafford is ready to witness an electric 2nd leg tie between the city of Manchester's bitter rivals.

Are you ready for the 2nd leg of the Carling Cup tonight? Are you ready for the best game of the year!!! Well you better be ready for that!!! This game is gonna be amazing as the two bitter rivals belonging to the same city battle to earn a place in the final of Carling Cup at the Wembley Stadium tonight.

Just a recap of what happened in the 1st leg of Carling Cup: Man City won the game 2-1. Tevez scored both the goals for City and Ryan Giggs his derby goal in ages. You can read the whole review and watch the match highlights here -> 1st leg of Carling Cup at Manchester City

Team News:

Manchester United:
Rio Ferdinand is all set to feature in his first Carling Cup of the season. He has been cautioned by the FA for allegedly putting his arm on Craig Fegan (Hull City's striker) face and stopping him from gaining the possesion last weekend. Incidently, this was his first game after recovering from thigh injury and he ended up with more trouble! Rio is seriously as some people call him a 'Bad Man'. I hope his behaviour with City is kind (esp Tevez)

I will be intrgued if Fergie plays Neville against City. Neville and Tevez both received warnings from FA regarding the passing of 'ill gestures' between the players on the occasion of the 1st leg of the Carling Cup.

I expect Fergie to play a 4-4-2 formation with Rooney and Berbatov up front.

In mid-field I expect Fletcher, Scholes, Valencia and Nani to feature. I am a bit ambigous about Nani to be honest. But I think either Nani or Giggs will play. Nani is a bit aggressive player. He can run well whereas the good old Giggsy can't. So I think Fergie might play Nani for the 1st hour and then give Giggs a go for the last half an hour.

Not to forget: United have Arsenal on 31st January! So Sir Alex Ferguson has a great responsibility of keeping his side fresh for that battle too.

Manchester City

Patrik Veira is still down with ankle injury while Robinho is fit to play tonight. But I really doubt if Robinho will play after the speculations that he's going to Sau Paulo. Although I've heard that Mancini has given his Brazilian striker full freedom to do what he wants.

Adebayor is back after his side (Togo) was disqualified from African Cup of Nations following a series of tragedies in Ghana.

With Adebayor and Tevez both playing in tomorrow's game, it could be tough (if not impossible) to stop Man City from scoring.. And of course we have the crucial Craig Bellamy who can do anything!

The game will be live on Sky Sports at 8.00 PM. I'm gearing up for it. I hope you are doing the same.

On that note I would like to say thanks for reading the post and please free to add reactions and give the post some ratings (earnest ones) and you're more than welcome to drop a comment or two :)

GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED.. Go battle the Blues!

United have been famous for 2 things this season

The number of late goals scored by Manchester United FC this season have been astonishing!

Leaving apart the fantastic football they've played so far this season, I would like to touch upon two things that the Red Devils have done very masterfully this season - something that is pretty hard to find so consistently and yet has become an avatar for modern football.

19 January 2010

The first leg of Carling Cup ends in an embarrassing defeat for United

Traitor!
Hero of the game: Carlos Tevez scored 2 vital goals to put City in front. He was later declared Man of the Match as well.

Man City 2-1 Man Utd

The game ended 2-1 in a very exciting fashion. This was Robert Mancini's (the new Man City manager) first ever Manchester Derby and after securing a famous victory it has turned out to be quite a proud one.

Ryan Giggs opened the scoring with a rather easy goal. It was actually Rooney's strike which was deflected off the goalie Shay Given and Ryan Giggs then did no mistake to give United a 1-0 lead.

Carlos Tevez then equalised from the penalty spot. Fabio held Bellamy from his shirt and continued to 'badly' mark him inside the penatly box; as a result of which he was booked and United conceded a penalty.

The Argentine scored again in the second half from the header. I must say the United defence looked shaky then and they deserved to concede that goal, not sure about the penalty totally. Tevez's celebration was quite remarkable after both the goals.. After his second goal, he ran till the half line and then put his hands over his ears... something like this:

The famous Cup celebration
But of course! in a blue t-shirt... He didn't over do it though as he didn't want to hurt the 'sentiments' of United fans.

Overall, I felt United were not very versatile in the beginning of the 2nd half. They weren't that alert due to which they conceded the second goal.

Now in order to reach the finals of the Carling Cup, United need to either of the following:

a) Win 1-0..
a) Win 2-1 to take the game to extra time..
b) By winning the game by a goal difference of 2 would do the job if they concede..

THEY NEED TO WIN THE 2ND LEG IN ANY CASE BY A MARGIN OF AT LEAST 1 GOAL AND NOT CONCEDE ANY. IF THEY CONCEDE A GOAL, THEN THEN NEED TO WIN BY A MARGIN OF 2 GOALS.

Glory Glory Man United... Hope we are fantastic on the weekend against Hull City.

18 January 2010

The battle of Manchester begins tomorrow in the Crucial Carling cup game at the Eastlands

United face Man City tomorrow at the Eastlands and this is quite a big game for both the teams. This game was supposed to be played on 6th of January but due to heavy snowfall in Manchester, the game had to be postponed to the 19th of January. It is the first leg of the Carling Cup Semi-final and its a great chance for City to register a win here and keep their hopes of winning a trophy after a long long time. But of course! that won't be easy as they face THE GREAT MANCHESTER UNITED.

United team news

The real worry for the team for the tomorrow's fixture will be Dimitar Berbatov and Ryan Giggs. Both are down with injuries. Berbatov might be needing an operation on his knee soon but it's great that he's still tolerating the pain and avoiding the surgery so that he can play for united.

Rio Ferdinand might be featuring in tomorrow's game but it's really touch and go. He's been training really hard and very eager to come back.

Owen Hargreaves still has some time to raise his confidence levels.

City team news

Santa Cruz has been ruled out from tomorrow's game because of a calf injury and may take a good 1 and a half month to recover. So that limits City's attacking options. But they have Tevez up front who is in his best form of the season.

Roberto Mancini is excited about the derby game tomorrow and believes that Manchester City can certain become bigger than their rivals and outclass them tomorrow. Ha! what a dreamer.

It will be interesting to see what kind of formation and players he plays tomorrow. Till now he's been giving the youngsters a try at the Carling cup, but will his tactics change against Man City?

I personally feel he should play Owen and Diouf and see how their partnership goes. After we've seen a nice harmony between Dimitar and Wayne, having a second choice is actually great!

As far as the defenders go, Sir Alex should not take a risk and pick his top choice.. He might wanna give Foster a chance after his bid to go back to Spurs was rejected earlier today.

In the midfield he should play, Obertan, Scholes and Fletcher and Giggs (or Valencia).. He could have Rooney on the bench who could come on as a sub for Owen. But I hope United thrash City tomorrow without Rooney.

Predicted score: United wins 3-1. Owen, Fletcher and Giggs to score.

MATCH DETAILS

Manchester United's relentlessness broke Manchester City, but only in the sixth minute of unexpectedly extended stoppage time as Michael Owen made his first major impact for the club. Ryan Giggs put him clear and the low finish was exemplary. The visitors had no time left to seek a fourth equaliser. They had been intrepid.

United made a spectacular start. They struck after less than two minutes when Wayne Rooney ran on to a ball from Patrice Evra, danced between Kolo Toure and De Jong and guided his shot past Shay Given.

Carlos Tévez, back at his old club, and others showed substance for City. The expenditure has been studies exhaustively, but there was worth of another sort here. They had not bee discouraged by the loss of a goal in the second minute.

But then came the turning point, when Ben Foster just about ended any hope of becoming England's keeper, when he failed to make a simple clearance, allowed Tevez to tackle him and looked on in horror as his former team-mate played the ball into the path of Barry to convert an easy 16th-minute equaliser.

The first leveller saw Foster trying to take a loose City pass back into his area instead of thumping it into the stands. Tévez, however, attempted a tackle. The goalkeeper could not grasp the ball cleanly and City's terrier of a forward knocked it into the path of Gareth Barry, who rolled the ball home calmly.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he was relieved to beat Manchester City at Old Trafford this afternoon, but stated that the 'power' of his team was decisive. Michael Owen believes he proved his dedication to Manchester United with his dramatic last-gasp winner against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

PLAYER RATINGS

FOSTER- 4 - Shocking mistake for the first equaliser as he was caught in two minds. Was shaky throughout and Sir Alex Ferguson must have worries about his bottle for the big occasion.

O'SHEA- 6 - Reasonable showing. Didn't stand out on the ball or off it.

VIDIC - 6 - Not a great deal for him to do. Cut down Wright-Phillips when he was through on goal to get himself in the referee's notepad.

FERDINAND - 4 - Unbelievable mistake for Bellamy's second goal. How a man of his experience could do such a thing is remarkable.

EVRA- 7 - Pounced on Richards for the opening goal and was rarely turned by Wright-Phillips.

PARK- 6 - Started off brightly but failed to build on it. Never troubled Bridge and was understandably taken off.

ANDERSON- 6 - Decent showing from the Brazilian, but his manager will not have been happy with his failure to track Barry's run for the leveller.

FLETCHER- 9 - COMBINED MAN OF THE MATCH -Ghosted in to force the second goal and nodded in the winner as he charged past a dumbstruck Toure. Stood up well to the compact challenge posed by City's midfield.

GIGGS- 9 - COMBINED MAN OF THE MATCH- His lack of pace was countered by Richards but used his outstanding technique to glide past him. Showed his class to set up Fletcher and played the pass of the match for the winner.

ROONEY - 8 - Was too sharp for City as he got the champions off to the best possible start. Gave the visiting backline a tough time as they failed to stamp out his influence.

BERBATOV - 7 - Linked up well with Rooney and was caught in a personal battle with Given to find the back of the net.

Substitutes

OWEN- 8 - What a way to break your Old Trafford duck. Stole the headlines with his late shot past Given, that moment alone re-pays Ferguson's faith.

CARRICK- n/a

VALENCIA- 6 - A more dynamic option than Park, he helped the Red tide gain momentum in the second half.
