As we approach the business end of the season, there is a sense of curiosity to finish at the very top most position. With 8 games in hand and a gap of just two points between the team placed at 2nd spot ( Man City ) and themselves, United has a really unique opportunity to close the gap on the arch rivals.
So what's missing in their piece of success?
The hint might be in the main picture of this blog post. Manchester United needs poachers. This is a rare breed of footballers who are very skilled to score on their first attempt
United are yet to play big teams like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. A win against each of these three times might change fortunes for everyone remotely involved with Manchester United - the three times European Champions.
An analysis of our current strikers suggests that we lack one of those mean headed strikers who just scores from any given opportunity.
For example:
"My situation is frustrating. I participate, give my all in training but, as far as for playing in matches, the opportunities are minimal. I belong to a team, but am not part of the important bit, the actual games," the striker told Fox Sports .
"Sometimes my confidence is right down on the ground, even though I am trying for it to be up there, with the help of the people who are always at my side and who support me.
"The most important thing is to get chances and to feel that they believe in you. Whenever they have entrusted me to do something it comes out positively, but I've been through two rather frustrating years.
"There need to be people who believe in me, so I can at least prove if I am any good or not."
Letting the Almighty decide this special kid's destiny!
Chicharito scored the cheeky winning goal against Guatemala putting Mexico in the Gold Cup Semi-final
Chicharito continues to shine for Mexico in the Gold Cup tournament. Javier Hernandez is so far the leading scorer in the tournament with 6 goals having already scored a brilliant hat-trick. After conceding an early goal, Mexico bounced back from 1-0 at HT to 2-1 victory at full time. Interestingly, Mexico was behind for the first time since the start of the tournament after that early goal by Guatemala striker Carlos Ruiz. Their lead held until Mexico's halftime sub Aldo De Negris equalized in the 48th minute.
In the 65th minute, our Little pea "Chicharito" scored the winner with an elegant yet cheeky backheel goal. It seemed like he's born for producing magical goals like these and made it look like a child's play. Check out the video above in HD! That put Mexico in the semifinals and marked just another day in the increasingly successful life of Javier Hernandez.
However, for Manchester United fans, this goal won't be a big excitement as the Mexican has already scored a similar backheel set up by Nani against Stoke City in the Premier League. The game was against Stoke City at Old Trafford earlier this year (4 Jan, 2011) after scoring which, Hernandez became the leading Mexican goal scorer in the English Premier League; an amazing achievement unlocked in his FIRST premier league season at Manchester United!
Let's wish Mexico and our Little Pea "Javier Hernandez" aka Chicharito all the best for the remaining 2 games of the Gold Cup and hope Chicharito wins the cup for Mexico!
The Man United Player of the Year awards 2011 event took place in the Manchester Suite, Old Trafford. The event was marked by United legends such as Alex Stepney, Paddy Crerand and many more. Also entertainers such as Keith Duffy made an appearance.
Here are the Award Winners:
Jimmy Murphy Academy Award: Ryan Tunnicliffe
Reserves Player of the Year: Oliver Gill

Sir Matt Busby Fans' Player of the Season: Javier Hernandez
Chicharito filming for the Coke advert at the Manchester Airport
You will soon see the little pea in a Coke advert. Javier Hernandez, the famous Mexican who landed up at Manchester United from Guadalajara (Mexico) this summer is ready to take his fame to the next level by appearing on TV during adverts as well!
The advert which was supposed to be filmed outside took place inside the Manchester Airport as the weather threatened the filming of a Coke commercial and the crew had to improvise to get the desired look.
Javier Hernandez was seen laughing and joking between takes with the crew and seemed to be comfortable in front of the cameras.
"There was a lot of activity and plenty of extras were involved in the filming but the main attraction was Chicharito. He spent most of the day here and there was a real buzz about the place.” Hernandez was rushed to the airport (where the commercial was being filmed) after filming scenes earlier in the day at Broughton Park rugby ground."
Chicarito’s Mexican side defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in the international friendly played yesterday. Our “little-pea” was easily the best player on the field, despite missing a penalty.
Hernandez was amongst the 5 players whom the new coach, Manuel de la Torra, decided to pick after the world cup debacle under previous coach. The 50,000 odd fans were delighted with the football and also the fact that they were allowed to carry their Vuvuzelas with them.
In the 49th minute, Mexico were awarded a penalty. Hernandez took the penalty, which the Bosnian goalkeeper managed to keep out. The ball bounced out, though, and bounced back over the goal line. While it appeared defender Miralem Pjanic deflected the ball into his own goal, Hernandez was credited with the goal. Mexico’s second goal was similar to Rooney’s first goal against Villa in which VDS provided the assist. Here, Mexico goalkeeper, Jesus Corona’s long ball took a bounce over the Bosnian defenders and Pacheco won the race to the ball and scored.
After the match, Hernandez said, “The most important thing is the victory. I didn't know if it was my goal or if it was an own goal, but I celebrated with my teammates and laughed because of the circumstance that arose. Scoring is always beautiful but it's better to win. It does you no good if you score three goals and you don't win."
Javier Hernandez has gained enough fame after joining Manchester United that people start praising and compiling songs about him. 7 goals in 20 odd appearances is indeed marvellous. This is just the beginning, the Mexican looks promising enough to achieve what Dimi Berba couldn't reach against Blackburn Rovers: 6 goals in a single game! Your day shall come one day Chicho!
Here is a tribute paid by famous Mexican Salsa artist "Choco Orta" Check out both the song and the lyrics. Any questions or comments? Please feel free to write in the comment box below.

Javier Hernandez will skip his usual pre-match Catholic prayer at Ibrox where there are plenty of anti-Catholics
Javier Hernandez maybe forced to abandon his pre-match Catholic prayer when Manchester United face Rangers in Glasgow on Wednesday week.
Deeply religious Hernandez – nicknamed Chico – kneels on the centre spot and prays before kick-off in every game he starts. But it is believed United boss Alex Ferguson – a former Rangers player – will advise the 22-year-old to ditch his ritual at Ibrox.
Rangers fans have already vowed on websites to target Hernandez if he goes through his normal routine and that will worry Ferguson who is anxious for United’s visit to pass peacefully.
Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito is devout Catholic
Rangers officials say there is no question of them banning Hernandez from his usual pre-match routine, which he started in his native Mexico.
But he runs the risk of antagonising anti-Catholic Rangers supporters if he is included in boss Ferguson’s line-up when the teams meet at Ibrox.
Hernandez played against Rangers at Old Trafford but Ferguson realises the atmosphere is far more volatile in Glasgow, notorious for religious sectarianism.
Does this indicate that Sir Alex aims to start with Rooney and Chicharito up front and ditch Dimitar Berbatov?
Manchester United 3-2 Wolves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Bebe 56' Park 70' Hernandez 90' | Elokobi 60' Forley 76'
It was a wonderful night for Manchester United as they proceed to the Carling Cup Quarterfinals by defeating Wolves. This fixture was already very special since it happened last year too with Danny Welbeck the only scorer. This year, things were slightly different.. United had to fight for the victory and BEN AMOS was in goal rather than Tomasz Kuszczak. Clearly, this wasn't the best efforts from the English goalie.
Late winner: Javier Hernandez
Bebe scored his debut goal in his maiden start for Manchester United. It was a lucky goal to say the least but the lad deserved it after working so hard. He was eventually replaced by the HERO ONCE AGAIN - Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito who scored his 2nd goal in Carling Cup in the 90th minute. Elokobi's controversial Pole dancing celebration near the Manchester United corner flagpost may as well cost the full back a lot.
Chicharito's first goal at Old Trafford in the Premier League against West Bromwich Albion.
Lovely finish, he's already a hero at Manchester United.. Wonderful goal. Thanks to Nani for the awesome set-up from the free-kick spot.
Gol de chicharito 10/16/2010 - Wonderful day for the Mexican striker
Chicharito's goal against West Brom.. His first in the Premier League.. You can also see Chicharito praying at Old Trafford before the match begins. Chicharito fans! DO COMMENT!!!
The only way to impress a large section of football fans for a striker or an attacking player is TO SCORE GOALS.
It's been goals galore for United's two forward men: Luis Nani (Portugal) and Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito (Mexico).
Both these players have scored goals for their teams this week and TRDS would like to congratulate the lads. May they hit the Carrington training ground with full might that they can totally shake their opponents and pledge to win trophies for United.
The lad has scored 2 goals for Manchester United this season exluding the three he scored in Manchester United's Pre-Season North American and Ireland tour. This post presents a little biography, his videos, pictures of the goals he has scored with Manchester United. Look out for his review done by TRDS at the bottom.
The latest addition to the Manchester United squad, Javier Hernandez, who is also known as "Chicharito" and is so proud of it that he has got it inscribed behind his t-shirt instead of Hernandez.
Who had heard of his name until United announced on 8th of April, 2010 that they've aquired him but the deal was subjected to a work permit acceptance? I guess not many, apart from Mexican Manchester United fans!
Then came along the World Cup in which the Mexican scored 2 goals. One came against a 2-0 victory against France and a massive 3-1 defeat to Argentina.
FIFA's statistical analysis team observed Chicharito to be the fastest player in the world cup with a top speed of 32.15 Km/hr
For Javier Hernandez there could have possibly been no better start to his career at Manchester United than to score on his debut. The goal came against MLS All-Stars in Houston, Texas. Fletcher set it up for him.
It was a close call whether or not Chicharito was off-side, but it was an impressive and a confident finish. Thanks to Darren Fletcher for his killer long pass.
Chicharito's debut goal against MLS All-stars 5-2. Thanks to Fletcher
In his 2nd pre-season game, this time against his old club - Chivas Guadalajara, he scored again! But this time against Manchester United. Yes, he played the first half with his old club as a farewell and changed into the Red Devil gear at the half time. He failed to stop his ex-club win the game. Chivas 3-2 Manchester United. Have a look at the lovely firing goal from the Mexicon which even the Polish United goalie - Tomasz Kuszczak could not save!
Chicharito then scored his 3rd pre-season goal in his 3rd pre-season appearance. This goal came against League of Ireland XI against Manchester United which saw the inaugral of the marvellous AVIVA stadium in Dublin. Manchester United 7-2 League of Ireland XI
Chicharito's face was enough to score a goal against Chelsea.
Chicharito's most important goal for Manchester United came against Valencia C.F in the 2nd Champions League group game. Manchester United registered a win in Spain for the first time in 8.5 years thanks to "Chicharito" Javier Hernandez's cameo appearance.
JAVIER HERNANDEZ REVIEWED:
The young lad displays a great deal of talent. He is undoubtedly one of the brightest young footballers around. Having said that, a transfer fee of £6m means that Chicharito is definitely a bargain for Manchester United already.
Chicharito with his sister
Chicharito is a two footed accurate finishing machine. He doesn't mind scoring from his face either, like he did against Chelsea in the Community Shield game which United won 3-1 thanks to a late goal from Chicharito which secured a hard fought victory for the Red Devils.
The guy is too skillful for his age. He is ravaging quick, knows how to override the offside trap. Chicharito is England's young Michael Owen one can arguably say. He is the most productive around the penalty area. Interesting enough! Chicharito was declared as the "fastest runner" by FIFA's Stats Analyst team at the world cup 2010 with a top running speed of 32.15 Km/hr. Now this is a huge plus point for a striker - the ability to make quick runs and making use of long balls fired by the midfield, typically how Darren Fletcher set him up during the MLS All-Stars game in Houston. (United won 5-2, totally brutalised the american squad!)
One can proudly say that Chicharito owns pace and skills that not many Premier League players posses. The Mexican striker has had a much better start to his Manchester United career.
I must conclude by saying that Chicharito has shown a great promise for both Manchester United and the future of Mexico. May he score loads of goals for Manchester United this season. Red Devils seriously need it from this player - as Rooney can no more be relied upon for his awesome away form (that was a joke).
Thanks for reading, hope Chicharito becomes the Top scorer of the season for United!
Berbatov was the lone striker until Chicharito "Javier Hernandez" came off the bench and scored the vital goal!
Valencia CF 0-1 Manchester United
They say everything is decided in the last 5 minutes of a Champions League fixture. This statement held true tonight as United registered their first victory in Spain by defeating a tough Valencia squad after 8 and a half long years!
Thanks to Javier Hernadez "Chicharito" whose 86th minute goal secured a tough victory over the La Liga's current No.1 ranked team - Valenica.
United were without Rooney, Giggs and Scholes tonight. Dimitar Berbatov was the only striker up front and was rarely seen in the whole game. He only got 1 opportunity to score and he missed it. Michael Carrick took on the central midfield role and Anderson made a comeback as well. Both seemed well fit. In defence, Rio Ferdinand played full 90 minutes and seemed in good touch.
Chicharito came on for Anderson in the final third of the 2nd half and Berbatov made way for Italian Federico Macheda afterwards. Soon after coming on the pitch, Macheda delivered a lovely pass to Chicharito who scored from an excellent finishing.
The Valencia manager Unar Emery, who is the 2nd youngest manager in Champions League season, kept himself busy by constantly moving his arms and offering help to his players.
All hail Chicharito - the awesome Mexican striker!
Javier Hernandez scored his first goal in Champions League in a crucial away game!
A look at the awesome Chicharito's goal against Valencia, Spain
It was a healthy and profitable international break for the United players as 3 out of 7 players scored. One of them didn't score once but twice and had enough chances to make it 4 or 5 goals!
All the United players, including Wayne Rooney, are back to training at Carrington, looking forward to the tough away fixture to the Toffees. Danny Welbeck scored twice with the U-21 as England demolished Lithuania 3-0. According to reports, Danny ran very fast and seemed to have a great control over the ball. He failed many easy chances to goals but managed to score twice too.

Javier Hernandez represented Mexico against Columbia and Ecuador in a span of 4 days. He managed to score against Ecuador. The kind of finish he delivered reminded me of Michael Owen's young days. Of course the only thing Owen lacks now is the pace which Chicharito does have - he was the fastest player at the WC2010!
Chicharito's goals against Ecuador 06/09/2010
Wayne Rooney opened his international goal account finally after a year and horrendous 4 WC games.

Darron Gibson and Darren Fletcher are back from international duties from Ireland and Scotland respectively. Fletcher celebrated his 50th Scottish cap. Congratulations to him!
Valencia represented Ecuador and is in fine touch whereas Corry Evans scored his first goal for Ireland.
All in all, it was a great outing for all the United players who went out for the international duty. Let's hope they carry on with this form in the upcoming game against Everton on 11th September (11/09/2010). The game will be LIVE on ESPN, preview, review, pictures and videos will be up on the blog shortly!
Javier Hernandez scores a lovely goal against Spain. The game ended in a draw with Chicharito being the only scorer for Mexico, the lad has given an aweful lot to Mexico lately. Also, this is his 2nd goal in 4 days! A great achievement for the lad :)
Let's hope he gets more and more goals for Manchester United
After having scored from his face against Chelsea in the Community Shield game at Wembley Stadium, Chicharito has marched onto a dream start with Manchester United. He was the fastest player at the World Cup 2010.
The new baby faced "Little Pea" - Chicharito having a picture with the Community Shield trophy at the Wembley Stadium
He came on at half-time for Manchester United partnered with Dimitar Berbatov. His name is Javier Hernandez, people aptly call him Chicharito (Little Pea, big pea being the legendary footballer and his father El Chicharito). I suggest you learn his name as you're gonna shout it many times in the coming season.
Chicharito is the first Mexican player let alone striker to be signed by Manchester United so far since 1878 - when the club was formed!
In the community shield game against Chelsea on sunday, Hernandez managed to score a rather awkward but lucky goal off his head! It was an electric combo of Dimi and Chicha... Dimi - who barely runs and Chicha who runs like a wild dog, mind it!
Javier Hernandexwas the fastest runner or shall we say fastest player of the World Cup 2010 with a maximum speed of 20 mph which is 32.15 kmh.. He also managed to score to lovely goalas!
So far, Hernandez has played 3 games for United: Out of which he has scored on 2 occasions!
Once against MLS all-stars and the other against Chelsea last sunday.
One of the quickest runners around: The name is "Javier Hernandez"aka Chicharito
When will he score at Old Trafford? That's a question yet to be answered.. Will he feature against Liverpool on 19/09/2010? and possibly score?
Chicharito has been rightly praised by Scholes and Vidic after the community shield game. He has been quoted as a very "sharp" player, similar to what Ole Solksjaer performed...
I reckon this premier league will be BIG for United, who can easily win it looking at the striking talent they have, the only concern is that there are very less goals from the midfield. Only Gibson and Scholes find the goal that often. I would be interested if Fletcher becomes more goal-scoring rather than just opposition's play-destroying!
Dimitar with its elegance will set up Hernandez, who then will chop the ball behind the goal line.. I believe Chicharito and Rooney are both similar kind of players, would be a big mistake playing them together, playing with Berba would be pretty wise!
It's still too early to say but I think Chelsea better watch out for this season, they might have to exit this season without a Trophy and United will take atleast 3.
Now that's my views, what do you think?
Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea Video Highlights
This was one of the most aggressive displays seen from Manchester United in quite a while. 7 goals in 1 game reminds me of the Manchester derby last September. However, there were no Michael Owen moments in this game and the whole game was very energy filled - a great ending to the North American tour.
Javier Hernandez, United's most recent transfer from Chivas this summer for £7m, scored in his debut game 6 minutes from full-time which was like icing on cake. I'm sure Sir Alex will be more than pleased by the lovely chip from the 22 year old Mexican striker.
Macheda gave United a lead 23 seconds after play resumed and soon doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Gabriel Obertan suffered a knock on his leg and had to be substituted for Tom Cleverly who scored a lovely goal in the second half. I must admit he really did show some miraculous skill to get the ball past the goal line. Check out the highlights! Van der Sar, who celebrates his 40th b'day this October, did a fine job throughout the game, although he did receive a wild but decent scoring effort from close to the Centre-line which he somehow managed to save.
There was a huge buzz around the stadium when Chicharito was brought on for Nani (who suffered a little blow on his knee in the first half). Chicharito soon missed a great chance to make it 3-0 but he hit the ball a little wide of the goal. It was a great chemistry display from Welbeck and Chicharito.
MLS scored a goal on the other end, and soon after Gibson was brought on for Ryan Giggs. Chicarito was fouled outside the box and to make things worse for MLS, Gibson shooted a lovely ball into the net. Bang! 3-1. Then came Cleverly who netted another brilliant goal. 6 minutes from Full-time, the debutant striker Chicharito chipped a magnificent ball over the goalie making it 5-1. Boom! But the game isn't over yet, the All-Stars fired a compensation goal which got deflected off VDS.
All-in-all, a great attacking display from the Red devils who could easily convert good chances into lovely goals, something which their opponent lacked last night!
It is almost certain, Chicharito is going to live up to the expectations and we have a legend in the making.
Hail Javier Hernandez!
