The sturdy defender who suffered an injury just minutes before the kick off against Wolves yesterday has been sidelined for two weeks at least.
"Rio has done his calf in the warm up unfortunately, so he'll be out for a couple of weeks" said Sir Alex after the match.
Rio pulled up a calf injury while warming up with the team at the Molineux after his name was included in the starting XI. Eventually, Evans replaced him in the starting XI and Smalling took Evans' place on the bench. And this turned out to be the turning point of the match according to some pundits as Evans looked uncomfortable in aerial challenges and Wolves made a full use of it. He had to be substituted in the 65th minute for Chris Smalling.
Rio has been left out of the England squad that was to face Denmark in an international friendly mid week. The most devastating bit is that he will miss the much anticipated Manchester derby next weekend and for sure, he will be missed.
His partnership with United captain Vidic has created problems for opposition players who have found it quite difficult to break United's defence all season.
Rio was on the sidelines as he saw United suffer a shock 1-2 defeat against Wolves. Rio suffered
an injury just before the World Cup too and returned into action with United in mid September only.
