The English midfielder cum emergency defender was bought by Man United 3 years ago in 2007. However, he was later sent on loan to Leicester City followed by Watford the following year. His era at Watford has been the most productive with 11 goals and a bit too silent with just 2 goals whilst at Leicester. He is definitely a decent player to hang onto, perhaps Sir Alex has realised this sooner or later after sho-eing off any further loan stories.
Tom Cleverly scored a couple of goals on the US pre-season tour which also featured a marvellous flick against the MLS all-stars when they were brutalised 5-2 in Houston, Texas.
Sir Alex has been eyeing this lad since his comeback from Watford where he scored many useful goals and also bagged the "Watford player of the Year" which is indeed pretty productive. He has also broke into the England U-21 team, obviously through his lovely goal scoring ability.
Cleverley stole the show last night with an impressive win over a second string 3-1 victory over local rivals Manchester City.
Speaking to MUTV, he said: "All I can do is keep playing to my top performance level when I play, whether it's for the Reserves or the first team. As long as I keep doing that, hopefully the manager will see I'm doing well and I'll get a couple of chances here and there.Any game against City is a big one, but in our squad tonight I think we had six internationals and six under-21 internationals or something silly like that, so there was added pressure there. "It was one of the strongest reserve teams ever. We didn't start badly, then they got the goal and we lost our momentum a little bit. But we got one in the first half, kicked on in the second, got a couple of good goals, and it's a good victory."
